Mixer is a private network for professionals working in art, fashion, film, music and other creative industries. The app is utilized both by individual creatives for networking and collaboration, as well as by businesses for posting job listings and other employment opportunities for Mixer's user-base.

Founding
Mixer was founded by Ronald H. Winston, Cody Simons, Anis Bennaceur, and Alex Carapetis, drummer of Wolfmother and Julian Casablancas and the Voidz, in June 2015. In an interview with Autre Magazine, Bennaceur has stated that the impetus for the app was a conversation with Carapetis when the drummer was touring in Europe, and how "as a musician, it would be perfect to be able to connect with other creatives in all those cities". Mixer was founded to create an organized and app-based alternative to the offline introductions, personal websites and all-purpose social network services that many creative professionals rely on to find potential projects and collaborators.
After officially coming online in June, Mixer's unveiling was celebrated by a launch party at Los Angeles's No Name Club on July 15th, 2015.

Operation
One of Mixer's main attractors is its carefully-vetted private user network. Potential users can find the app either through invitation or finding the app themselves, but must apply and be invited by Mixer to be able to use the app. Each applicant is carefully screened by Mixer's team to ensure that the app's network is professional and well-curated to ensure quality of interaction and collaboration - as Simons explains, "we believe there needs to be a clear delineation between artists and enthusiasts." Eventually, however, Mixer intends to expand to those that aspire to a career in the creative industries, not just those already established: as Simons elaborates, "eventually, we would like to broaden our base to help the aspiring creatives in their learning and discovery efforts - but for now, we are trying to provide a space for artists to connect with one another without the sometimes coercive effects that come with trying to broaden one's fan-base or following".
Features
Mixer's homescreen operates as a feed through which users can view other users' latest projects, photos and external links, as well as post their own. The feed also enables users to like, comment, and connect to other user profiles directly. Once mutually connected, the app's personal message feature connects users privately.
Another of Mixer's offerings is that users can refine their searches by location, industries, and industry-specific professions, and then either send connection requests or skip users through swiping.
The app's Jobs tab lists all of the creative professional opportunities posted on Mixer. All users can either apply to these job listings or post their own, and manage all applications or applicants through the app itself.
